If you've always wanted to try out sock knitting, this is the perfect opportunity! This class will walk you through all the basics, including different needle options. In this class, we knit a single sock from start to finish to help you join the world of happy sock knitters!

This class is available for in-person instruction only. Please note this class is held in 3 consecutive sessions. Make sure that you can attend all 3 sessions before signing up.

Winter Quarter sessions:

January 13, 20 & 27 - 6:00-7:30PM

Skills you will learn:

  • Sock knitting materials - best yarn choices, needle varieties (DPNs, flexi-needles, short circulars, long circulars for Magic Loop)
  • Anatomy of a sock - cuff, leg, heel flap, heel turn, gusset, foot, toe
  • Reading a sock pattern
  • Best cast on technique for socks
  • Knitting in the round
  • Heel techniques
  • Toe shaping
  • Grafting

Skills you already need to have: Basic knitting knowledge required (cast on, bind off, knit & purl, k2tog, ssk), no prior sock experience necessary!

Supplies you need to bring to the first class (sold separately):
  • Yarn:  284-459 yards of fingering weight yarn, I recommend a light colored yarn that makes stitches easy to see.

  • Needles: US 1 (or US 2 if you're a tight knitter) - you can select DPNs, a 9" circular, flexi-needles, or a 40" circular for Magic Loop (If you choose to use 9" circulars, you will need a second needle/s to assist with heel and toe construction.

  • Notions: stitch markers, tape measure or sock ruler, and tapestry needle
